What is Collagen?

Collagen is a unique protein and also the most abundant protein in the human body. It accounts for up to 70% of our skin. Type 1 Collagen is the essential insoluble fibrous protein that gives our skin its structure. When collagen is hydrolysed, meaning it is broken down into smaller chains of amino acids, it becomes bioavailable and is more easily absorbed by the body. Hydrolysed collagen is known as Collagen Peptides.

How does Collagen contribute to the skin?

The outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, protects us from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, harmful chemicals and infections. The dermis is the second, much thicker layer of the skin where collagen fibres form the infrastructure for elastin, which maintains the skin’s elasticity, and for hyaluronic acid which traps moisture. Ageing occurs in the dermis first before it becomes visible on the skin’s surface.

What type of collagen does Beauty Complex contain?

study of 60 women between the age of 45 and 60 to evaluate the impact of Peptan® on the skin and hair, 75% of collagen-supplemented participants recorded fewer and less deep wrinkles; 85% noted fewer large pores; and generally, more hydrated skin and stronger hair was noted. Collagen peptides are bioactive, inducing collagen and hyaluronic acid production in the skin. Peptan Collagen Peptides

Peptan Collagen Peptides are a Type 1 Hydrolysed Collagen, which have been independently tested and clinically proven to enhance the health and appearance of skin, hair and nails for a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Hyaluronic Acid

The skin is the heaviest and largest organ in the body, making up about one seventh of our body weight. Daily environmental damage combined with the normal process of ageing causes moisture loss. They are a type of naturally occurring, long-chain fatty acid which make up to 50% of the skin's epidermis (its outer layer). Phytoceramides are ceramides derived from plants, rather than from animal or synthetic sources.

Biotin

Biotin is one of eight B vitamins. In some countries it's referred to as Vitamin H, which is derived from 'Haar und Haut' - the German words for 'hair and skin'.
Biotin is also a water-soluble vitamin, which plays a role in the maintenance of hair and skin. It cannot be made by the body and therefore must be obtained through a normal balanced diet and/or supplementation.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and vital antioxidant that can not be created by the body.  Vitamin C helps reduce the physical signs of ageing because of its role in the body’s natural collagen synthesis. It also helps restore damaged skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Sufficient vitamin C intake can also help repair and prevent dry skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the body and used when it is needed. It is also an antioxidant and plays an important role in protecting the skin from environmental damage and treating skin inflammation.

Selenium

Selenium is known as a trace mineral that helps to maintain elastin, which is a protein used to maintain smooth skin. Selenium also has antioxidant properties, which help prevent cell oxidation and the visible signs of ageing.

Copper

Copper is an essential trace mineral that is key to maintaining collagen and elastin. Copper also contributes to normal hair and skin pigmentation because it is needed to make melanin, a pigment in your hair and skin.
